Hands On Activities
At AYSA we believe in hands-on learning. Some of our activities include students viewing and imagining the Sun using our specialized Lunt solar telescopes and exploring NASA facilities using our Virtual Reality headsets. Obviously to get to space you need a rocket, this has inspired Rocket Day at Space Academy where our students design, build and launch rockets!
Site Visits
Canberra is a hub of space innovation with cube sats (miniature satellites) being built at UNSW Canberra and tested at the Advanced Instrumentation Technology Centre (AITC) at Mount Stromlo. Communication with Rovers on Mars and deep space probes is key to space exploration, this is achieved by the Deep Space Network. The Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex at Tidbinbilla is one of three sites across the planet that is tasked with this job and a key stop on our tour of Canberra’s Space facilities.
